Fun Monday Art Edition
This week is hosted by the gorgeous Sayre. We are challenged to:
Brush off your interview skills. Talk to everyone who lives in your house. I want to know what their, and your, favorite piece of art is in your home. Photographs do not count. If there was a fire in your home, everyone would grab photographs, but what is the non-photographic piece of art you would grab on your way out - and why? (Edit: These don't have to be paintings - these can be wall hangings, statues, lumps of clay by your child, anything that is artistic expression of some kind EXCEPT photographs.)
Oh good grief. I'd take everything if I could. We love some art here. That and since we can't get rid of anything makes for an interesting collection.
My Salvidor Dali Print above our couch.
Don't ask me the technical name for this, but way back when, this is how drinks were mixed and chilled. It used to be my grandma's and I really love it. Pardon the dust on it. I seriously lack in the cleaning department.
This used to be Kev's parents. He thinks they received it when they got married. Kev's dad ended up with it when his folks split and Kev took it when his dad died. I love the simplicity and sweetness of the piece.
Elvis Cat. I work for an arts organization and one of the artists in the organization made it for me. I LOVE it! Cat + Elvis, what's not to love. (Would that be a Elvat or Calvis?)
And of course, my dearly beloved Elvis Scarf. And yes, it is a real Elvis scarf worn by the King himself. If ya'll haven't heard me rattle about this before, my aunt and cousin went to an Elvis concert back in the early 70's. Even though sitting front row, my then 5 year old cousin fell fast asleep. Elvis, finding this highly amusing, serenaded my cousin and placed his scarf around her neck AND SHE NEVER WOKE UP! My aunt saved the scarf and 30 some odd years later gave the scarf to me for my birthday. And yes, those are real ELVIS MAKE-UP STAINS. Bow down to the scarf. You are not worthy.
Update from last week's Fun Monday: Sadly I did not get to get to donate my blood today. Something about yadda yadda can't give blood when rivers of toxic yellow snot pour from your nose. These people just have no imagination and didn't understand my pleas of "But, I have a blog and need to take pictures!" Hummmmph. I will push on folks. The next blood drive I will try again and my toxic yellow snot can be damned.
Very eclectic combination of "keepsakes." Why am I not surprised.
I think that 'green thing' is called a bong. Anyway, it's looks very much like something I recognize from days gone by. (Excuse me while I go kneel at the porcelain altar.)

What a neat post idea! I wouldn't save anything that could be replaced--so even though I have a large print I LURVE, I wouldn't grab that: for $50 I can have another print of it. I do have an old illustration, carefully cut out of a mid 1900s magazine by my grandmother, and I love that and would save it. I also have a sketch purchased in France by my grandfather during the war, and I would save it.

I love that drink cooler offer thingie. Also the statue. And the cat. Okay, I love it all.
I have three Klimt prints. But the most treasured are a print my grandmother had when my mom was a kid and three framed paintings my mom did. I'd probably take those.
The Dali print is treasured for me because it was one of the first birthday presents given to me by the hubsters.

How eclectic your art is, and you told such great mini-stories about why it's special. I love that. Do you have the Elvis scarf behind glass, I hope?
The Elvis scarf will be placed in a shadow box when I find one I like. It hasn't been in my possession for very long. It now resides in a glass cabinet away from sticky kids fingers.

I love the drink concoctor! How wonderful! I hope you keep it up high so Aaron can't get to it.
You can donate blood anytime, you know. Just wait until the Snot River dries up and get thee down to the blood bank. We'll wait!

Ah, Persistence of Time and a real Elvis scarf are nice choices of art. Although I do not have a momento, I did see Elvis perform in concert in 1957 in his gold suit.
I am so jealous that you got to see Elvis perform!

*gulp*!!!! A real, honest to goodness Elvis scarf!! Why I'd have that under lock and key, and perhaps under glass. Ya, baby, I'd take that out before the kids if there were a fire. [just kidding----I'd be grabbing the scarf, YELLING at the kids to run!!!] LOLOL
This is terrific.

You have a nice mixture of things to grab. Loved peeking at your stuff and the stories to go along with each item.

You have cool stuff. How lucky are you to have the Elvis scarf! :)

That is quite an array. I like the statue from Kev's parents also due to it's simplicity. An Elvis scarf is amazing. You are truly lucky to have that keepsake. LOL at Hootin'Anni's comment, I think I would be inclined to do the same ;-).

A REAL Elvis scarf? wow. too cool.
I love your grandmother's distiller thingy.

The glass piece looks like a wine cooler, where you put ice in the middle, and chill the wine in the other section.
I think the sculpture would survive the fire - so the Elvis scarf would be the thing to grab!

That Elvis cat? He so rocks! You could wrap the Elvis scarf around the Elvis cat when you make your escape!

Very cool that you have a real Elvis scarf! And I love Dali, so that print would top my list too, if I had it.

Wow! What an interesting collection! I can only imagine what lurks in your attic or basement...very cool stuff. That scarf! Holy s#$%!!! That's awesome! I'm not an Elvis freak, but THAT is really too cool. I'd grab that in case of a fire, for sure. Thanks for sharing with us!!

I love your Elvis story! I'm willing to bet nobody else has one just like that. The drink thingy is really cool too. I really like that all your treasures have been passed down in the family

Oh my gosh, I have that same wine decanter. The only difference is that mine has clear glass rather than the yellow tint. I didn't think of it as art, but it totally is. I keep it on display in my dining room. It was my grandfathers.

That scarf must be worth some mucka-bucks.
